Evapotranspiration Publication

Back to Publications

The Agricultural Meteorology Division of IMD, in the early seventies, established a network of 33 weighing type and 7 volumetric type lysimeters for crops in each major soil climatic regime. The data collected at these stations over the last three decades are presented in this publication. This publication contains information on weekly evapotranspiration (ET) losses for crops along with important relevant meteorological parameters viz., weekly averages of maximum temperature, minimum temperature, relative humidity, mean wind speed, bright sunshine hours, weeky totals in mm of evaporation, rainfall and total rainy days. It is hoped that the publication will be useful to planners, scientists and agrometeorologists in particular. It will enable them to study ET losses weekwise, seasonwise, cropwise, to identify the period of peak consumption of water and the critical periods of crop life cycle when the water need must be met, and to analyse the ET data (thus generated) in comparision with pan evaporation data.
